This Weekend: Hopscotch/Fine Art

I just noticed that this Saturday (June 3) is the Spring Playground Festival at Madison Square Park. I anticipate lots of ice cream and double dutch. I might stop by before heading to the Met for a movie, choices below.

The Three Worlds of Bali (59 min.)
Directed by Ira Abrams and Johanna Demetrakes, 1981. Shows how the arts permeate almost every aspect of daily life on the Indonesian island of Bali. Free with Museum admission.
1:00 p.m., The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium

The Costume Institute: The Art of Dress
"The Art of Dress" is a new cross-cultural guided tour that focuses on the way artists have used clothing to express identity and influence from the 6th century B.C. through the 20th century. Free with Museum admission.
1:45 p.m., Great Hall

Pharaoh’s Obelisk (60 min.)
Directed by Julia Court, 2000. Using ancient Egyptian technology, a crew attempts to raise a monolith, similar to those erected at Hatshepsut’s mortuary temple. Free with Museum admission.
2:30 p.m., The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium

Egypt beyond the Pyramids: Mansions of the Spirits (46 min.)
Directed by David deVries, 2001. Discusses recent archaeological research at ancient sanctuaries in Egypt, including the Temple of Karnak and Hatshepsut’s Red Chapel and Deir el-Bahri. Free with Museum admission.
4:00 p.m., The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium

Anybody up for some culture?
